Biscuits with Avocado & Egg

Last summer, we spent a couple of days of our vacation in Brooklyn, New York. We had breakfast at this very nice place, Café Madeline. I had these biscuits (also called scones) with avocado and egg. They were delicious which is why I decided to make them for our Sunday morning breakfast and the blog. The biscuits are delicious with nasturtium, which is a plant that has edible leaves and flowers. The leaves taste a little like watercress. They are still blooming on our balcony and I think they make every dish look special. (more…)

rose-hip bars

In my previous post I made rose-hip jam. I wanted to make something special with it so I decided to make these rose-hip bars. You can make these bars with the rose-hip jam from my previous post (see here), but you can make them with any other jam as well.I went rose-hip picking together with my grandparents. My grandfather picked the most! (more…)

Rose-hip jam

I live about ten minutes away from the beach, where we go very often in the summer. To get to the beach, you have to walk through the dunes, where there are a lot of rose-hip plants blooming this time of year. I’ve always wanted to try making rose-hip jam so this year, I gave it a try. I love the idea of picking fruit in nature and turning it into something delicious. (more…)

Lavender cookies

Finally, the flowers are blooming again! My favorite flower is lavender. They smell and taste so good, which is why I wanted to make cookies with them. These cookies are delicious and you can taste the lavender really well. They are also pretty easy to make. It is best to make these cookies with fresh lavender buds, because fresh lavender has more flavor. However, they are also delicious with dried lavender. (more…)

Tropical Truffles

The weather is finally starting to get a little better in The Netherlands! That’s why I decided to make these Tropical Truffles. These delicious truffles include all kinds of tropical flavors that make you think of the beach. Besides being delicious, they’re pretty healthy too! It is a very easy recipe that only has 5 ingredients. Basically all you have to do is combine the ingredients, make them into little balls and cover them with chocolate. And when you take a bite, it will feel like summer! (more…)

Mirthe’s Barcelona

Artist and designer Mirthe Blusse and I go way back. Last year, we worked together on a series of travel journals for the German newspaper Die Zeit. She drew beautiful black and white pictures of several iconic buildings in Europe. She then moved from Amsterdam to Barcelona, where she works as an artist in residence. (more…)

Long Island Clams with Herb Butter

Summer Break! After spending the week in Manhattan, it was time for a change of pace, and we decided, as so many New Yorkers do, to settle on Long Island. We occupied a beautifully restored, 200-year old barn on the East End and enjoyed the sandy beaches, gorgeous bays, fertile land and vineyards, upscale beach towns, and sleepy Hopperian villages.
